On the remodeling end of things, Gary got the new sod in the backyard and Jessica can't wait to practice handstands and backbends and walkovers in the soft, soft grass. Now that the backyard is mostly done (looks very pretty except for the piles of leftover dirt that we haven't moved yet), we'll soon begin the arduous task of painting the living room and pulling up the carpet to prepare it for the wood laminate and fireplace work that will be the next step. I'm not sure, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, we'll be able to sit back and enjoy the changes to the house for a while after the living room is done!
Other highlights so far this month:
1. We caved and have become wii-ers. (Or are we wii-ians? Or wii-ites? Hmmmm...I have no idea what official title we've acquired, but whatever it is, we are now IT!) And with "it" getting as hot as it does here in the summer, we usually try to come up with some kind of indoor entertainment for Jessica and her friends for the times they actually get tired of swimming. Last year we did a few months of BlockBuster Online and a wii seemed like a fun (and slightly more active) alternative. Unfortunately, after trying it out (I just hooked it up today) I discovered that I'm personally a TERRIBLE player! We'll have to see how Gary and Jess are, I guess!
2. School's almost out!!!! (Wait, I think that needs a few more exclamation points. WHOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!!!!!) The 22nd is our last day, both for Jess at school and for myself for work. We both like school/work but the thought of a summer off is a wonderful, wonderful thing! Starting school in early August isn't so much fun but it IS very nice to be done before the end of May!
Here's a picture of a project Jessica has been working on --a woven paper quilt for our newly remodeled family room. Isn't it gorgeous?
